Preserving an original document
- Handle clean, dry paper carefully and avoid unnecessary folding.
- Store documents in archival-quality, acid-free sleeves.
- Keep them away from direct sunlight, moisture, heat, and adhesives.
- Photograph both sides before storage and preserve the image filenames with the catalog record.
- Do not erase handwriting, remove staples, laminate, or apply tape without advice from a paper conservator.
Collectible documents and vehicle ownership
A collectible certificate is not automatically proof that a buyer owns the vehicle described on it. Registration, ownership transfer, title replacement, bonded-title procedures, and accepted evidence vary by jurisdiction.
